“Developing value in digital cultural assets through open and hybrid licensing schemes”
While the reuse of material has been hailed as a path towards the production of different forms value for cultural institutions and the society as a whole, the question of how and where this value is produced remains as pressing as ever.
Open licensing schemes have significantly matured over the past decade and can contribute substantially to the creation of different “virtuous cycles” of open content and data producing thus value for a number of actors in the data/ content value chain.
This presentation examines some of the value production models and the use of different types of Creative Commons licences as components of a broader ecology of value production for the cultural sector.
